香港高血壓參考概覽 - 成年高血壓患者在基層醫療的護理 (病友篇)

血壓是血液對血管壁所產生的壓力。「收縮壓」或稱「上壓」指心臟收縮時加諸血管壁的壓力；而「舒張壓」或稱「下壓」指心臟放鬆時血管壁承受的壓力。量度血壓一般以毫米水銀柱 (mmHg) 為單位。

根據「美國國家聯席委員會高血壓的預防、偵測、評估、及治療指引第七版 (The seventh report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure)」， 高血壓是指: 上壓持續位於或高於 140 mmHg 或下壓持續位於或高於90 mmHg。
